DDOS Meaning -- What is DDOS? It stands for Distributed Denial of Service. It's one of the most basic cyber attacks (a DDOS Attack), in which the attacker overloads the target Web site with hundreds or thousands of requests at the same time.
The attack is distributed because it is carried out by multiple computers, usually infected by malware. In many cases, the owner of the computer will not even know it is being used for an attack.
It is called a denial of service attack because the infected computers flood the target with huge amounts of traffic, rendering the target computer unable to provide services, such as showing a Web page or facilitating e-commerce.
